New research by ABI Research indicates that by 2030 there will forty-one million 5G enabled connected vehicles in service.
ABI estimates that of the 41M connected vehicles, 75% of these vehicles will be enabled for cellular V2X communication.
In the near term, by 2022, 5G connected cars capable of cellular vehicle to everything (C-V2X) will become available. Ford as an example has already committed to a 2022 timeline for cellular V2X.
Cellular V2X provides a medium by which vehicles can share a variety of messages such as a forward collision warnings, lane changes, and hazard data.
